OIE Sub-Regional Representation for Southern Africa

The OIE Sub-Regional Representation for Southern Africa was established in 2005 in Gaborone (Botswana) to cover all 15 member countries of, as well as to liaise with the regional economic community, the Southern African Development Community (SADC), which also has its headquarters in Gaborone. The SADC member countries are : Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.


The office became operational on January 1st, 2006 when the Sub-Regional Representative was appointed. It was at the time, the first sub-regional representation established by the OIE.

The office is currently expanding its portfolio of activities (thanks to the support of various donors and represents the backbone of the Regional Animal Health Center for Southern Africa, established since 2007 and formally recognized since 2009.
